...this weekend I was driving from North Carolina to NJ and I was listening to Basscast Podcast. Lo and behold, they start talking about Jaco (again) and the fact that he was the bassist on All American Alien Boy (which is one of my top-ten favorite songs of all time). Now, I must have listened to that song 500 times in my lifetime and I never put it together. I usually read album covers and sleeves and such, but I guess it never really clicked.
I paused Basscast and put on AAAB and sure as shinola: Jaco. Amazing. I've always loved that song, and the bass was one of the big reasons.
I still can't stand Jaco's type of music, but this was a cool find. Awesome song, awesome bass playing.
From what they were saying, AAAB was a real departure for Jaco. His playing fit that song to a tee. Honestly, I had never even heard of Jaco before I picked up the bass 2 years ago and joined TB.
You'll never hear me say that he's not great, but I can't put all that jazzy clutter together in my little brain.
Peace.
