A new appreciation for Glen Cornick

I've always enjoyed Tull's music from any era, but I never dug into their music deeply. I enjoyed what I heard, but never felt the need to run out and grab every album, just a little here and there. So imagine how knocked out I was to hear "Inside" for the first time! Great tune, melodic and mobile bass line...I wonder how I managed to have never heard this before? Cornick knocked my socks off again. Anybody know what setup he played on this tune or the entire Benefit album for that matter?

+1! "Inside" is a sweet tune and I wonder how they put it together. It seems like it's not an easy to tune to get the right feel for. The bass line is definitely an integral part of it. Unfortunately, I don't know what gear Cornick used on the album.

Check out www.cornick.org. Lots of Tull pix in the gallery. I see Fender & Gibson basses, mostly, but I could have sworn I saw him using a hollowbody Guild at one point around the era you're speaking about.

There was a lot of good discussion about Glenn in this thread:

Jethro Tull

Don't know for sure about gear on that track, but Glenn was using the T-bird a lot in live shows around that time.

Either his Gibson EB3 or EB2D (hollowbody, same 2 pickups as EB3) through HIWATT with 4x12 cabs.
My appreciation for Glenn Cornick is old.

Glenn Cornick is one of my favorite bass players. I love everything off the "Benefit" album.

He did not use the EB2D - he didn't like it at all. See here

Yeah I saw that.
I knew he used the EB3 on Stand up. That's cool he used it on Benefit too. I like EB3's better anyways.
That's a really neat interview.

He said he did use the EB2D on the "Witch's Promise" recording.

I asked him on Facebook, he said he hardly ever played with flats. He said he maybe had some on his thunderbird, but he's not sure. So early tull is roundwounds. Probably one of the first bass player to use rounds in the 60's, along with entwistle and noel redding...

I know he also used a P-bass for recording. "Bourrée" was recorded with a P-bass w/roundwounds.
