New bands with great bassists?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm getting quite tired of my current music library, and I was wondering if anybody was aware of any new bands that have terrific bass players. I'm mostly into everything but metal
Funk, Jazz, R&B, Disco, Motown, Classic Rock are my usual flavours. Essentially, I'm looking to expand my musical horizons.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue! I have faith in live music again.

MUTEMATH

Check out MUTEMATH. Roy Mitchell-Cardenas is a technical monster, but he manages to play very tastefully in the band context. Great P-Bass tone too!

This band has such a nice original sound, and the bass work is excellent. Much appreciated

My good friend Jeff does some really tasty things on the bass in The Fast Romantics. To my ears, his playing is always interesting.

Good examples are Sleepy Jean and Spooning the Gorilla.

Juan Alderete has been with the Mars Volta for a while now and every time I've seen him with them it's just been mindblowing.

Also his fretless work in Big Sir is brilliant.

Heavy Marvin Gaye vibe. The bassist is good but I feel a little pentatonic'ed to death.

Nothing like having the bass as the main instrument without it being a slap riff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bUeSTkI1ew

Sorry you feel that way. I've provided a very small sampling, obviously, but definitely check out the rest of their stuff. They have quite a range of sounds.

Awesome, man. Glad you enjoyed them! They're great guys and give a hell of a show, to boot.

Sorry. It's an instrument making music, nonetheless.
