She says quite rightly that the jazz masters of old thought in terms of chords and not scales. My father is one hell of a jazz pianist and he never thinks about modes! |

For those of us who just fell off the back of a turnip truck, can someone state briefly what the "controversy" is? If I'm understanding correctly, Ms. Kaye claims to have played bass on a few recordings attributed to other bassists. Do I have that right?
The passing of time clouds the memory for all of us; it seems unlikely she's deliberately exaggerating, more likely she's telling it as she remembers it.
Also I wonder if in a few cases she played "a session" but not necessarily "The Session" that was the golden version for release of certain songs or albums.
Anywho I would really like to see the documentary get made... |

Regardless of any errors in reporting/memory, the fact remains that she is an important figure in the history of modern music.
Would love to see that movie get made.

She's been asked about some of the inconsistencies and remains steadfast she played those parts in dispute, even when evidence contradicts her. I would think any documentary ought to include that controversy if it's to be judged fair and accurate. And whether a subject has been debated in the past or nor, doesn't mean it's not able to be reopened when someone isn't aware of said discussion. Not everybody is omniscient, you know. |

| | | And by the way, the controversy doesn't take away from the fact that's she's one of the best bassists ever, because she is. It just detracts from my personal opinion of her as a person, not a player. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
