Thought it was a little high just to route the pickup and wire hole to the cavity. I would do all the electronic wiring. |

Phil | Really? I get that you like this bass, but have you considered selling this bass and getting a P/J bass instead? Because the cost of modding this bass may cost more than this bass is worth.
Routing a body is a fairly costly job. And then add on the cost of a pickup. You're looking at close to $250 in costs right there between the routing job and the cost of the J pickup. A Squier VM P-Bass costs that much on it's own. Do you really want to invest an additional $250 on a bass that retails for $250? |

Pretty much. I do like the the bass. It's one of the best Squiers I've laid my hands on. Have not considered selling it though. Was just looking to add a little more versatility to my sound by adding the J bridge pickup. But, yes, the final job would cost almost as much as the bass. That's what I've been going back and forth with. It's too bad I'm not good with a router or didn't know anyone (or a fellow TB'er in my area) that would do a favor for cheap....and also do a good job at it. If I took a shot at it, it would look like a butcher job.
Oh well, I'll keep thinking about it. Thanks! |

Oh well, I'll keep thinking about it. Thanks! | I don't know what your budget is like, but I have an early 1983 Guild Pilot bass made in USA, has the standard P-J config, active EMGs. With rosewood fingerboard, which was an option at the time and according to the Dronge family not many made that way. Its exactly like you see in pictures of Garry Tallent from the Born in the USA tour.
Much better, in my opinion then routing a Squire. I'll sell it for $700 and we can meet somewhere so there is no shipping.

tom | Tom,
Thanks for the offer but I'm definitely not in the market to pick up another bass. My main players are Stingrays...which I have 8 of them...so definitely don't need another bass for the collection. The Squier is just a back up / beater / band practice bass that I can leave in the car and not worry about. So, wasn't looking to spend too much on modification. No problem though. It's perfectly fine as a P bass and will continue to serve it's purpose with me.
Thanks,
Phil |

| | | | Hi Philthy. I have an early Squier parts bass that came factory stock with P and J pickups. It has a thin J neck. I currently have it loaded with EMG's which sound killer. I wasnt looking to sell it, but it is just collecting dust, as I never play it. I will let it go for $200, which is just about the cost of the EMG's anyways. Its black with white pickguard, rosewood f/b. It sounds killer, and plays great. And we can meet somewhere. If you dont want it, it will collect some more dust. :-)
