I read a blurb in Rolling Stone that Joni is in the Studio recording new material with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Brian Blade on Drums. It didn't mention a bassist though? ...ideas anyone? |

I think he's played on the majority of her stuff since the Jaco days..
Cheers,
Essexbass.

but Klein does still work with her.

| | | | Cool... I thought Joni was done recording.
Larry Klein plays regularly with her, and sounds wonderful IMO.
For you Joni fans, if you haven't heard/purchased Travelogue.... it is just stunning.... a retrospective of her career with a large orchestra... Herbie, Wayne, Brian Blade, etc. The orchestration is just unbelievable, as is the recording itself. Totally fresh versions of many of her classic and newer tunes. IMO, the best Joni Mitchell recordings ever! |

While I totally dug the Jaco era stuff, I think her songwriting hit a new high with Night Ride Home and Turbulent Indigo. I thought Taming the Tiger kind of sucked... I think she was in pure experimental mode with that new midi-Parker guitar thing she had just acquired.
The 'Both Sides Now' CD (her first orchestra type recording) was also kind of hit and miss, but set the stage for the amazing Travelogue double disc set.
Thanks for posting this thread... I will watch for the new disc!

| | | | I would pay big bucks to see Joni live.
I'd pretty much given up hope that she would play any more gigs, but this sounds promising!
from joni's site
"October 9, 2006:
Joni made an exciting revelation in her most recent interview in the Ottawa Citizen celebrating the anniversary of Hejira..."she revealed she's recording her first collection of new songs in nearly a decade."
You can read the full article in the library, and of course new details will be announced as they become known."
yipppeee
btw - Shadows and light is a great live album with fantastic jaco basslines. I really like Hejira as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
