Unfirtunately, I was probably "technically" better when I was 20. I'm a little more tasteful now, but the fingers are stiffer.. |

His playing on John Mclaughlin's "Industrial Zen" album is stupifying ( especiallyfor a 21 year old). Just listen to him laying it down in "For Jaco" he plays melodic lines with a great sense of harmony, all the time holding together what is essentially a vrey chaotic song!
What is also impressive is that he puts Matt Garrison and Tony Grey to shame. They are the other players on the record and both (Matt esepecially) are consumate, well-know pro bass players. Hadrien's work on the album just seems to make them look a bit staid by comparison. Listen to Matt or Tony without comparing them to Hadrien and what you have is a top class performance, but Hadrien raises the bar just a bit more...he is going to be a serious heavy weight if he keeps on going this way. Just remember, Jonas Hellborg's first real "break" was playing with McLaughlin!
What is also quite amusing is how Hadrien gets a much better tone than Matt and Tony. Consider that Hadrien is using a Ken Smith Burner (I think thats what it's called, and IIC it's Korean made) whereas Tony and Matt both use Fodera. Now, I love Fodera, so this difference in tonality was another huge surpirse to me! |

But I also like the tracks with Tony Grey.
It's good to hear Gary Husband playing piano/keyboards as well.

I'm a big John McLaughlin fan (being a guitar player too), and I was quite disappointed with this release. Apart from the sounds and the players, I don't think there's much on here that John wasn't doing twenty-five years ago.
The best moments are on the final track and the battle between John and Zakir Hussain earlier on in the album.
I find the processed tone of John's guitar irritating, which distracts from his fine playing. The drum programming and synth sounds are really quite dated.
Would prefer this album with clean guitar tones and a blend of acoustic and electric instrumentation - ditch the cheesy synths John!
I can think of plenty of better jazz albums released this year.
