By the way per diem means per day | Yeah, that misuse of per diem annoyed me, too.
They do state that food, transportation and lodging are part of the deal, so the per diem would probably be more for incidentals. But in the whole Dollar/Euro scheme you wind up on the short end of the stick here.
But $500 a week? That's kind of slim to be taking yourself out of the NYC scene for as much as 3 months.

ShoeManiac, you weren't denied--you just didn't actually ask for a number. Heck, I'm from Arkansas originally, so who am I to deny anyone entry?
I never know what to do with the ones who just come in and say hello, but don't ask for a number. Should I just throw a number at them anyway, then?
