newer bassists

Sign in to disble this ad
I was jsut thinking about this the other day. It seems as though theres not to many newer bassists that are great these days. Or I propably dont knwo abotu them. Im talking about bassists who've become big in the past year or two like Bona. It seems that most of the new bass talents are most of the soloists guys . Not to many groovers. I also heard about a few other bassists from where Bona is from that are supposed to be good. Im not saying anythign bad abotu these guys . Im more trying to find more great modern bassists. I think there are some great soloists. And im really looking forward to hearing Felix Pastorius and David Pastorius in the years to come.

who are some of the new soloists you're talking about? You might be surprised how many solo bassists can lay down a good groove. They just choose to put the bass in more of a lead role(which i think is cool )

-Felix Pastorius is JAco's son. Julius Pastorius is also Jaco son. They have a band together called WAy of the Groove. They are a very funky/fusion type group . They play some of their dad's sonsg along with funk tunes like Herbie Hancock. theres been many reviews saying this band is to be wwatched out for to explode in the next few years.
-David Pastorius is JAco's nephew. He is the son of Roy pastorius who is Jaco's youngest brother. He plays in a few bands , one of which is front by Mary PAstorius (JAco's daughter and oldest child.
-Grueber , I know alot of the solo type bassists' can really groove but what I meant what bassists who are strickly like backup players who jsut mostly hold down the groove. I think its cool to that they lead on bass. Guys like Richard Bona , Linley Marthe to name a few. Seems like South Africa is really churning out some great bassists. And Joe Zawinul nabs them up too.

whoa! that's some pretty esteemed company!

thanks, Crazy Horse!

if you want to hear some really amazing "new" players, here are some of the cats...

Greg Campbell
Trip Wamsley
Yves Carbonne
Seth Horan
Darren Michaels
Brady Muckelroy
Jeff Schmidt
Cliff Engel
Adam Nitti (okay, not totally new but still not well enough known)
Chris "C3" Cardone

pull all these cats up on myspace and see all the cats listed on their pages!

and if you don't know him, check out Al Caldwell!!

oh, and just for the record, most of these cats make their bread and butter as goovers. the solo thing is just where they shine.

Stew

well, not sure if any of you guys will care at all, but i'd say Stefan Fimmers of Necrophagist is quite good, and he and that band are relativly new. Again, not quite groove, but, he's quite good i think.

hhhmmm, i wonder if i shall be flamed for this...

Hadrien Feraud. He's fresh to the scene but he is going to be huge.

Also, Kai Eckhardt is really going places these days. Or not

The guy is an amazing player and has one heck of a CV. Gigs with McLaughlin and with Billy Cobham? His solo career seems to have met little acclaim, despite "honour Simplicty..."
being a rather good album! He now teaches online.

he's one of those guys who should be "major league", but seems to shuffle around second division.

I don't know, it doesn't seem like my CD's-to-buy list ever gets any shorter. I think there is a ton of new cats coming up for me to spend my cash on.

Look out for a guy named jeff greydaunis, he has just been playing for two years and can out play 99% of people that I have heard. He is hoping to have a CD out by christmas. This kid is someone to watch out for.
