If I may, I'd just like to blow Nibbs' trumpet (oo-er matron). Now, early Saxon basslines are the easiest imaginable. When I first picked up a bass I could knock out 747, Wheels of Steel or Strong Arm no problem. But that was with Steve Dawson. Current Saxon stuff is brilliant. As an example, Red Star Falling (their best song since Dallas 1PM) has a superb bassline, and to my ears sounds a bit Geezer-esque, check it out for yourselves:

Not to mention that live he's a great performer (kinda reminiscent of a cross between Steve Harris and Cliff Burton in his stage presence and energy) and takes the classic 'lines of the Dawson era and adds some very tasty fills and runs where before they just chugged along.
