Nikolai Fraiture-The Strokes

Awesome band first of all. Uses a simple straight forward approach. Usually plays a Jazz but I have seen him with a MusicMan and a Rickenbacker. Anyone else dig the way he plays? Anyone care to discuss his technique or the fact that within one or two years after getting his first bass he is a member of one of the biggest bands in the world?

About as basic as players get. Not that thats a bad thing, but I think The Strokes have made some of the most diabolical music ever.

I love the Juicebox, love the little riff.

I think he mainly plays a Jazz through SVT's. He plays with a pick and fingers. Not sure on strings, I think they are TI's?

I think that fact says more about the state of the music industry then it does about the bassist's technique.

I've never seen him play with fingers in any live video- perhaps you could direct me towards one? thanks.

I also dig nikolai's taste in basses though, his jazz basses look absolutely killer!

his lines may not be the most technical but they definitely cut through well and drive the songs, which is really rare for most of the stuff u hear on radio nowadays

I think he is one of those bass player's that may not get a lot of respect but he can come up with some very tasty lines, such as in "is this It."

Yeah man "Is This It" is a great bassline- but "Red Light" and "Juicebox" both have absolutely killer bass riffs. Nikolai also has extremely good taste in basses- classic tobacco burst jazz with tort pickguard-doesn't get any better than that. Furthermore, Nikolai onstage is probably one of the coolest cats around. I love how chill he is. He's really the guy that inspired me to get going on the bass.

He Has come out with some solo stuff called Nickel Eye. It's good stuff and the album is coming out in the fall.

Can't wait to hear some new riffs Nikolai comes up with for their 4th album.

Julian Casablancas comes up with all the music, including the basslines.
