They played for about 2 hours. It was my first time seeing Les playing live and i must say he is very spot on. He is the only bass player i have seen live to have the same tone as he does on albums. Not a let down at all! I have moved away from my early days of learning bass where i wanted to be just like Les but it was still mind blowing to see. The entire night was great and such a different kind of concert then anything I have seen in a long time. I am very glad I went. |

I saw a bass with a resonator in it like a dobro. Also, what was that stick thing he had. Not the electric upright that he also had but that one string bass that he kept pulling a lever to make the sweetest/oddest tone?
i highly recommend. not just to see claypool who was amazing, but his other musicians definitely made it for me.

Saul Williams is surprisingly good and fits in with the tour like he was made for it. Les had gone through 4 of his classic costumes before the night was over (rubber Elvis-hair and Riddick goggles in a brown tails tux was the best.)

| | no really, smokemeth&hailsatan | | Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Pueblo, CO | | | I saw the Oddity Faire in Denver on the 14th. Secret Chiefs Three were the opener. They mixed traditional instruments with microltonal guitars to create a an exotic sound the reminded me of soundtracks from movies set in the middle east. Atmospheric, strange scales and rhythms, and a great mix of different instruments. Saul Williams was next. Other than the beginning and the end when the guys were twirling knobs and causing beautiful feedback, he failed to impress me. Kinda full of himself if you ask me.
After that was Yard Dogs Road Show. A very eclectic mix of gypsy music, big band music, a circus act, and a burlesque show. Reminded me a lot of Golgol Bordello. Definitely worth it to see. Those guys and girls have some amazing vocal abilities as well. And the whole show was put on with such a great energy and pomp that everybody was moving with them. Great show!
And then Les came on. I have seen a lot of comments here latley about his bass playing being a shtick and also sloppy, out of tune, blah blah blah... Load of crap. Go see him live. His playing was spot on, his band of a drummer, a percussionist, and a cellist were also spot on, and his entertainer quality's were also top notch. He is just as great of an entertainer as he is bass player. Awesome show! Eenor (who played with Yard Dogs) even came out and jammed on Thela Hun Ginjeet. The show was a healthy hour and a half, with Electric Funeral for the encore. I also got myself a set list from the show too! |
