Technically, he did sound great I guess. I talked to him at the Temple Bar in Santa Monica about 6 years ago, and he said that he records the live show in advance, and pantomimes (his words) it during performances, because he's also the choreographer. If you look at some of the concert dvd's, you'll hear a G string snap while Verdine is grooving on the E string. BTW, he's not the only one in the band that does that.

He looks like he's just checking out a bass....then all of a sudden it's becomes a perfomance in some peoples eyes and they may not like what they hear. So then this 57 seconds of a persons life is supposed to sum up their playng.
It works the other way around too. Someone sounds incredible for 60 seconds. And that's it...done. In reality they're not really good.  |
