Ohio Bassist update and 2 Questions

Sign in to disble this ad
Now that I am in Columbus (Reynoldsburg) I have went (bass in hand) and checked out a 3 places to play open mic stuff so far. The Hot Spot--NOT a rock place, TreeHouse--despite the website and emails to them its really acoustic oriented (I went and talked to the manager) and not a place for me, Blarney Stone--oriented to old covers. Sigh-I'll go to some more places.

The "jam" places I contacted always refer to playing covers with the host band--I quit playing covers years ago and have no interest in rehashing Smoke on the Water with someone. So still looking for a place to go in and play rock open mic.
Any definitive places someone can mention that is open to rocking out?

Question 2--long term Columbusites: if you know of any really hot Satriani-style guitarists open to being contacted lemme know! Yes, I have ads up. I guess I'd rather form my own band and then hit out.

Sorry for the length of the post.

Hmmmm.......

I've lived here since '94 and I'd like to know the answer to question #1 myself.

I'd also like to know.

Craiglist is getting pretty pathetic lately, and I've had a few too many horror stories with auditions with "bands". I've had one really good outcome with CL, but it only lasted about 2 months before a couple of the guys split for another gig. Sigh... I just wanna play!

I always look at www.bandmix.com to find some new local opportunities. I've gotten 2 recording gigs from that site.

You can also try www.cringe.com , but it's always a crap shoot. I think I've had an ad up there for a couple years, and only got 1 hit. Then again, I'm old. Not many jam nights that get into Satriani stuff. The closest thing I can think of would be Thursday nights at The Thirsty Whale on Eakin Rd., which is on the west end of Columbus.

Edited - never mind. Looks like you already found it.
