Ok what's up with this man

Sign in to disble this ad
Here you go snyderz
'Rant'
(yes it bothers me that people go off on my heros for no reason)

What is it with all the 'hatin' on here man
I've been seein a bunch of shhhtuff hit the roof when a few bassists get mentioned, especially with some of my personal favorties
I'll get ta names in a sec but first off we're not exactly the largest breed, and when somebody chooses to become a part of the beauty of the bass world (I'm jus a bit obsessed with bass if ya can't tell) it shouldn't be frowned upon because they play differently or something like that
Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, Fieldy Snuts (korn), Ryan Martinie (mudvayne), Cliff Burton (old Metallica), Jason Newsted (I think I messed the spelling up... but middle ages of Metallica...
I could go on, but you could just navigate round this here site and see what I mean
I can't even fathom why people hate on Sheehan
He's a monster, and just about everybody can learn something from that guy, hes just great
Wooten
Aaack agian I can't even imagine why... He's a god man
He turned people from just bassists to musicians man
And everybody can learn something from him
He's a genius
And let's not even get into talent, I don't think I need to touch on that
And Fieldy (in addition to Claypool) got me into the bass man
His sound is so incredibly unique
I mean I read people say "ooh fieldy just slaps"
Really???
Ooh ok
And half a million other bassists who people don't question, and even greatly respect don't???
I mean some people jus play pick
Some jus play finger pick
James Jamerson, one of the greatest bassists of all time, if not the greatest, only used one finger
Is there a problem w/ that???
And if I might go so far as to add Fieldy doesn't jus slap he plays finger too...
And Ryan Martinie
Soly Hhit
Ever heard Dig???
And Death Blooms???
Beautifully written on bass
Those two are so fun to play
Especially Dig 'cuz I love to improv on the verse
And his tapping on happy is B.A. as well
Cliff
Dear Jesus
I don't even think I have to get into why he's so amazing
Orion, Anestasia (yay lack of spelling knowledge)
Jason
No he's not my fav
Yes his style is not remotly the same as that of Cliff but c'mon on dude
The God That Failed and My Friend of Misery
The latter is one of the best bass riffs I've ever heard
And I love Jasons slapin
And all the other bassists that get attacked
Yes I think Gene Simmons is a flickin prick and I think he should be knocked around for telling me why I'm in music and i think he's way to into the money and the industry [I would have went to the hospital w/ ya Stanley] and I serisouly have problems with him fueling the sterotype musicans are fitted into, the same that has my girlfriends parents distrusting me so (that and my apperiance...)
But I have no clue why people say he's a terrible bassist
He's a great bassist
Not the best person in the world
But you know
I dunno I could go on for a long while, but ya know...
So what's the deal
I mean first why are we dissin our fellow arena shakers
And second why these guys and a few others so much???
Their all great

That's called "a failure of the imagination" my friend.

For starters: Sheehan's terrible tone & banal harmonic vocabulary, in contrast with the god-like or "virtuoso" status bestowed upon him by some folks, might be reasons to hate him. Which is not to say you couldn't still learn something from him -- he's indisputably talented -- but there's plenty there not to love.

I too find them all amazing bassists.
Why?
Because they are all doing their own thing and making talent out of it. You can't say someone is a bad bass player for having talent in a particular part of playing. It's called having skills

I actually think it sounds cool especially on his stuff with David Lee Roth but you know whatever
If you think his tone sucks that's your opinion dude that doens't mean he sucks

Which is all I'm saying
At least their not just carbon copys of another bassist
If somebody doesn't like a tone or something then it's their tastes, it's not that that bassist sucks, or needs to have people go off about them for it...

There's millions of people in the world who can't do that

But he doesn't suck
Suck is practicing bass for five years and not being able to play Blitzkrieg Bop

threads like this dont help, in everything in life, some people will have opinions of what is good and what isnt, and annoyingly, they have the right to express their opinion. dont feed them, ignore them, they arent personally out to get you
