Yeah apple music has some pretty good stuff. But I don't even go there anymore because the employees were so snotty and helpless, and some even pretty unknowledgeable. Really just not worth my time. I have heard the same thing from many many others around the Portland area as well. I mean these independent businesses are supposed to have the advantage of good quality service over places like guitar center... Which, by the way am I the only one annoyed by their selection of only low to mid level basses, the stock of which seems to rarely if ever change? Anyway, I digress, apple music has a kind of interesting selection (including some rics, that they obviously don't like taking off the wall...) but if you go there expect some pretty snotty attitudes unless you're gonna spend a bunch of money right then and there. AND yes! Portland is dead dry of good basses it seems.

That describes at least half of the local guitar shops I've been too.

Most of the others have hardly any selection.

Five Star is my first choice other than Guitar Center. Portland Music is good too, good selection. Most of their staff are good people, there is one guy that makes me feel like I have to buy something while I'm there. He's not a bad guy, just makes me feel uncomfortable.

There are good builders in town, if you're looking for that?

Yep, that's been my experience as well with 5 Star. Nice people, none of the pretense of bigger stores, and a very relaxed atmosphere.

Oregon bass dudes: Who is going to step up and put together a GTG ? It just occured to me that we might be able to use some bar or other after the Sunday church of NFL is over this weekend.

And on a side note I am going to be liquidating about six or eight all tube guitar and bas amps.
PM for details.

Still here. Playing mostly six string, and not much bass these days, but I do enjoy it!

All I've been doing lately is job hunting. Haven't been doing anything bass-related except picking mine up from time to time to noodle and posting way too much on TB.

Discouraging. Been looking since November 1st. Not a lot out there for someone with only a few years of customer service experience. No point in getting a part time minimum wage job because it'll pay less than I'm getting for unemployment.

Yep, I've been looking for almost two years. After working 35 years straight.

Unemployment is up for me.

Mama's not happy, not at all

I hear you guys on the work front. My sister had to move in with me! Been here since Sept, and no job.

My water/gas/elec are off the charts with her home all the time.

What's the Blues Scene Like In The Pacific Northwest?

( I posted this in the GTG section before I knew there was an Oregon Bass players Club)

What's the Blues Scene Like up there?
I'm thinking of moving to the Pacific Northwest.

www.Visualsoundrecording.com ...me and some of my music.

I'm wondering just how vibrant the Blues scene is up there, down here in SoCal it's a desert, very few venues and all around 100 miles away.
I would appreciate any information anyone could give me about the scene. I'm kind of thinking about Portland OR.

Thanks

Dave

Well up here in Portland we have an ENORMOUS blues festival every summer at the waterfront park, right around 4th of July. Definitely a must go to for any blues fan, I've been a few times myself and am never really disappointed. They get some really great bands and musicians, and some impressive headliners. Last time I went I saw Buddy Guy.

Anyway, as far as local bars and clubs that host blues, Portland is a pretty good scene, especially if you're into jazz too. Portland is just one of those places that inspires and supports any type of music. Which is one of the reasons I love it here so much!

My drummer used to go to a blues jam downtown portland every saturday. But stopped going after some guy took over his personal drum kit for over an hour. The next week after the blues jam the drummer that took over his kit emails him saying" why werent you there? there was no drum kit. 15 guitarists and 1 bass player. He should have brought his own kit instead of being lazy and depending on someone else to bring drums.
