...you are putting me in the Poor Haus, Jerry.
I am a big fan of the early Allman Brothers Band; that said, these last couple releases(especially the LIVE ones + the DVD) are smokin'.
After Oteil left Va. Beach, I sorta assumed he would pop up in kinda Funk band w/ his brother or start some kinda Alan Holdsworth-type Fusion band...when I heard he was in some sorta "Allman Brothers" project(Col. Bruce & ARU) on Capricorn Records no less, I was a little surprised. That he's in the ABB makes perfect sense, I guess.

He brought new life into that band along with new songs that they desperately needed. Dickie was known to be mean to their bassist, especialy Allan Woody. I don't know if there are two better guitar players out there than Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks. I saw the Derek Trucks band last year, and it was basically a jazz show.........they smoked

I'd recommend it only for the serious collector who has to have everything they ever put out. |

They have been releasing a lot of shows from the Fillmore lately, a couple weeks back I picked up a Los Lobos one that also smoked. I think ARU was around before the DVD boom, so nobody ever thought to properly film them

Great set, once they turned down the kick drum and that Hammond organ that was resonating. I got some nice pic's and got to shoot the breeze with Oteil afterwards. Great guy and some incredible music. Chris, the drummer, was locked in all night!
Nothing like sitting 5 feet from Oteil, hearing great music and getting to talk music with him, all for $8!!!!!
Thanks for coming by, Oteil!!!!!!!!

Oh and lets not forget his Bassday video from 1997 I believe? Dont think its out on DVD but definetly on video. I've had the opportunity to see Oteil with the Allman brothers, govt Mule and the Peacemakers and gotten to met him a few times and he's just a really nice down to earth guy who wil make your head explode once you hear him play.
Oh yeah dont forget "Frogwings" another ARU, ABB off shoot!

I'm only 25 and have just been playing bass about 3-4 years so I'm still thinking a diminished chord means you have to turn down when playing it. . . that said, about a month or two after I started playing I got introduced to Vic's playing. Of course I'd never heard anything like him and had the double thumb infatuation for a bit. . . then a guitar player friend turned me on to this guy Oteil who he said was better than Vic. He gave me the ARU album In A Perfect World, I believe (is that the one with "Satisfaction Guaranteed?"). . . his playing on that album continues to blow my mind. I've seen him twice with the Peacemakers and twice with the Allmans. The most recent show was about a year ago in Nashville with his band. Unreal. . . it's too late now for me to be coherant in my praise for his playing, so I will shut up now. But he is certainly in my top favorite players to listen to/see live. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
