I really never hear his name around here to much and I jstu wanted to knwo a bit about him. Ive looked him up on google and not found much except what bands he's been in. A fellow bassist/friend told me how awesome he was and was tellin me about Oteil doing Your bird has flown by the Beatles and scat singing at the same time. What cds of his do you guys recommend?

Get any of the Oteil and the Peacemakers CD's. Their is one with a DVD/CD combo that has a studio video and interview that is pretty cool (it says there is a lesson but the lesson is really just an interview and not a lesson), but as far as music goes I like their newest CD much more (both have some really really amazing bass solo's on them)

There's a few threads about Oteil around here, I don't think we would let a bassist of that caliber slip through our fingers that easily.

Oteil is one of my favorites, definitely one of the best out there. To see what he really can do, you have to see him live, prefererably with the Peacemakers, or, if you're lucky, the Aquarium Rescue Unit.

If you're into bit torrent, you can download several ARU shows here:

I would recommend the earlier ones w/Col. Bruce. There's some sick playing - it's Oteil, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Sipe, and the Colonel.
