I am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that the Family Community Church Choir and band accompanied Tramaine Hawkins in our church today-a gospel living legend!!!!!!!!!!! It was thrilling to witness the awesome power that Tramaine posses in a live setting, let alone playing bass behind her. Once I snap back to reality, I'll provide more details.

It was quite an experience playing for Tramaine!!!! One of our church members is Tramaine's cousin and she informed us that Tramaine was coming about 3 weeks prior. I figured that I would get the opportunity to see and hear Joel Smith's bass mastery (he is ruling it on the new CD!!!!) and maybe get some advice and/or a lesson. We got word that the only person she was bringing with her was her husband to do the sound-which meant that we were backing her up!!!!-GULP!!!!!

As amazing as her voice is, what blew me away was her ears-she hears everything!!!!!!!!!! During a sound check on the night before, Tramaine gave directions to the sound booth, which included her husband, to make various EQ adjustments for greater clarity. Also, she critiqued our choir and band, pointing out who was not hitting the right note. While it was somewhat intimidating, it was also very uplifting because she treated us like professionals and pushed us to a higher level!!!
We ened up accompanying her on two songs-"Oh Happy Day" and Going Up Yonder". She used pre-recorded tracks for several other songs.

All in all, it was an amazing experience!!! As a side note, if you haven't checked out Keith Brooks and New Creation Perfect Peace CD, you should. Darrell Freeman is absolutely killing!!!!! The same goes for Joel Smith on Kim Burrell's Everlasting Life CD.
