Ozzy Remixes

Sign in to disble this ad
If this has been asked, I am sorry. I did a search and found nothing........

A few years ago, Ozzy/Sharon re-released "Blizzard of Ozz" and "Diary of a Madman" on CD. But, this time around, the bass/drums were re-done by then bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Mike Bordin. What is your opinion of this? To be honest....I hated what I heard. I have been a fan of Robert since his Suicidal Tendencies days. I have seen him Live many times over the years and think he has really grown as a bass player. But, his tone, mixed with Randy Rhoads' guitar just didn't mix well to my ears. I found it blasphemous in a way too. I am 36 and grew up jamming along with those records. Bob Daisley taught me alot about playing bass. Any input to this is appreciated.

I don't like the remixes.

Is there somewhere to buy/download the original versions?

Like Geezer Butler with Sabbath, Bob Daisley was Ozzy's right-hand man during his solo career until his departure after No More Tears. Responsible for all lyrics as well as bass duties on all studio albums. As far as I'm concerned, Ozzy's output has been insignificant after Daisley's departure. What Ozzy and Sharon did with the "remixes" using Trujillo/Bordin to replace the dynamic rhythm section of Daisley/Kerslake was a travesty!

Well said, it is a travesty. Those Daisley lines are a classic. I actually bought both of them on CD on ebay (if you look you'll find some of the originals most likely).

That Daisley/Kerslake work is one of the best bass and drum lines of the history of rock. They were the rythm section of Uriah Heep, and the combination with randy rhodes was simply magic. I bought the records (vinyl) and after all those years, they still on my playlist.
If Osbournes done that stupid thing, was for sure cause of some legal problems....It seem Daisley is quite pissed with Ozzy due to some copyright problems....He was claiming for his rights as a co-author...

They are terrible.

I blame Sharon, She is the business side of ozzy. Daisley said he holds nothing against ozzy and he knows it is all sharon in a past article.

I hated them when I heard them. They lost all the magic I remembered as a kid putting on the first album and hearing the great basslines and drum fills/beats.

Yeah, Sharon needs to crawl into some hole. Yeah give her credit for getting semi-functional but now she's just a wank. Like that crap she started with Bruce Dickinson at Ozzefest. What they need to do is re-release Tribute to Randy!!!

The moral of the story is not to get on Sharon Osbourne's bad side.

Oooh. The remixes are not good. Not good at all. The players are quite competent but the actual mix is horrible.

If you grew up with the originals, like I did, you will sorely miss Daisley. Those are the epitome of classic heavy basslines!

i was personally offended when i found out about this. it is so petty of sharon to do this. she is such a greedy witch. so much to the point that i am losing my desire to hear ozzy. it's a shame. she goes to show that no matter how many millions the ozzy camp is earning it won't be enough for her. just more more more.

daisley/kerlsake rythym section was a HUGE MONSTER. together with rhoads it was amazing.

Daisley/Kerslake cannot be replaced. To me the re-tracking and remix sound a little too stiff - like the players were trying very hard to copy all the parts note for note. They are great players but the feel is different. I just can't bring myself to liking it, especially because of the circumstances surrounding it.

Good to see some Daisley love!

Yeah, the newer players are very talented. I haven't actually heard the remixes, but the thought of it makes me want to vomit. Ozzy is an old fool.

I'd have to agree that the whole idea is just bogus. My brother bought the remix of Blizzard and knew something was really weird about it...it was dissappointing to find out that they got Trujillo and Bordin to redo the parts. It really does sound stiff and the modern recording techniques used on the bass and the drums make RR's guitars sound bad, I think. Luckily, the old, untouched editions aren't too hard to find in the used CD bins in stores around where I live.

I liked Randy's sound on the remixes but I hated the playing of Robert and Mike ( even though they are one of my favorite rhythm sections)... listen to Believer, sounds sterile...

HI

I agree with bobe. Its a slap in the face to those two, especially Daisley. He was a HUGE part of those great records. Lyrically, bass lines, etc. Not cool!!

I would like to know this as well.

I walked into a music store yesterday, and if it wasn't for the sticker on the wrapping with Trujillos name on it, I wouldn't have known the difference.

From what I have seen online, people have a tendency to misrepresent what version they are selling.

Is there any definitive way to tell the difference? CD number????
