Papa Grows Funk - Mark Pero

Sign in to disble this ad
Mark Pero is just fantastic! Very tasteful slap.

for slap haters - this is how funk slap should be done. Nothing super fancy, it just grooves! None of that victor wooten 30000000mph double thump (I love wooten until he starts putting that stuff in. ruins it)

any other fans of pgf?

there's some youtube vids floating around, but most are substandard.

I'm a fan now. Never heard them before but I dig it. I like bass players that don't over play.

First I ever heard of them. This should be posted in the Funk 101 thread. Good stuff! I just downloaded their latest cd!

Thanks for the heads up!

yeah, they are yet another band I 'discovered' listening to Pandora.

One of their tunes came up on my robert randolph channel.

I love pandora.. such a great thing. and expensive. "Holy crow.. this is great. I gotta get this album!"

+1 I discovered PGF through Pandora as well... It's a fantastic service! I hope they're able to stay in business with looming royalty fee increases for "Internet radio"...

Great player...and leaves space for the other musicians in the band.
Reminds me allot of a subdued Marcus Miller, and I mean that as a compliment. I love players that don't over-play.....the main thing is the song itself, not showing off chops.

I read a Victor Bailey interview around ten years ago, maybe longer.....in which Victor stated "Sometimes the best thing you play is what you don't play".
I couldn't agree more.

Mark is a great example of that.
