I started listening to some old albums from The Damned, like the black album, and realized the bassist on there was really good.
His name is Paul Gray. He seemed to have been active in the early punk scene. Not the Paul Gray from Slipknot.
Does anybody know more about him?
For a punk bassist, he was way above the usual.
Thanks! |

He also played in a band called Eddie and the Hot Rods who were a very kick a$$ rock band as opposed to being pure punk. Paul writes a column in a British magazine called Bass Guitar. He is an interesting guy and an underrated player.

There is a very big Musicians Union in America. Not all musicians belong to it but I'm pretty sure you have to be in it if you're an act on a major label.

Anyway, if you have the opportunity, listen to The Damned's Black Album, I was impressed by the level of this album, for a band like The Damned (and I've listened to probably most of their albums, but this one sticks out).
Paul Gray is a very inspired pick player. |

Paul Gray is a very inspired pick player. | If this is the album I think it is....starts off with the track "Wait for the Blackout"....... then yes that album is impressive. Very musical for a so-called punk band. I liked the whole album if I am thinking the right one.

True, they slowly evolved from punk to the gothic act they are today. |

although the union would probably like that.
the damned has done some tours lately, i take it paul gray wasn't involved. awesome player!
