I really like his tone on this song. Anyone know what his set up was on this song? It was probably etither the 4001s or the violin bass but im not sure. Also anyone know what amp he was using? I think it was a vox

That would have to be the Rickenbacker, with flatwounds. I'm almost certain the Hof was mostly retired by then.
And the amp, of course, was underwater.

I thought Paul used the Hofner for most of Abbey Road. A Jazz bass also perhaps?

Can't vouch for the accuracy, but this website says it was the Rickenbacker.
http://perso.wanadoo.es/sissu/aroad.htm#5

But then again, that same site claims he used the Hofner on "Something", which is contrary to what Bass Player magazine says (they say he used the Ric on "Something"):

So basically, I'm no help, LOL.

Sounds like the 4001S to me, may be the Hofner. He used a Fender Jazz a lot on this album but it doesn't sound like it on this tune.
Amp is for sure a Fender Bassman.

Speaking of which, have you heard the remixes, 'Love'? There are a few awkward transitions, but in all it is a lot of fun to listen to so many classic songs interwoven as they are. 'Octopus's Garden' is there, and it has an added depth you wouldn't expect with such a campy song. I don't want to spoil any of the suprises.

I tried to like "Love", but the last time I listened to it, I think, will be in fact the last time I listen to it.

The DVD mix is a LOT better. Has a lot more life. The CD mix is too loud and doesn't have a lot of dynamic range...

The technical aspects of the recording were not what I found difficult to listen to, it was the artistic ones.

I heard Love's "For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" on the radio today. It was really neat. In the circus break in the song , they had a crazy organ going with some echoed vocals from Helter Skelter. I enjoyed it.
