Anyone see Paul Simon on Saturday Night Live this past Saturday? He had quite a interesting band, but I couldn't recognize the bass player. The bass player was way back in the corner and I just couldn't figure out who it was. Appear Steve Gadd was on drums. |

Good stuff...

There was a pic of that bass, in Bassplayer.
I believe it's a 6-string. |

Great, great player playing an african/jazz/funk mix with a smokin' NYC all-star band. He had a 4 string fretless singlecut, short scale, and a 6 String singlecut that he said was brand new. I couldn't make out the brand of each one.
For those that don't know, Bakhiti has been playing live on and off for Paul Simon for something like 20 years. He was the guy that wrote the bassline to You Can Call Me Al, as well as the rest of the songs on that album. He played a YCCMA teaser during the show. |

Bakithi Kumalo was there and I was trying to make out the bass. Good lighting but camera work was a bit fast over the band. He had a 4-string fretless that had a single musicman pickup. Natural type finish, may have been a Benevente. |
