I totally agree. I have never heard Jaco in those two players.

I totally agree about no Jaco in either Percy or Mick.
I did hear Percy in Mick though; in his use of modes and microtonal approach, which I believe are/were intentional and not simply out of tune.
I have no idea if Mick ever listened to Percy.
All 3 are/were trailblazers w/Percy being to my ears the most unique/least imitable of them all.

I love Percy Jones' playing but I blame him for stalling my progress as a bass player.

I listened to him a lot in the 1980s and I tried to imitate him without having any understanding of basic music theory -- that is to say, I was just wanking. So I didn't learn much for a long time.

Of course, it was my own damn fault but I still blame him.

I was more of a Jaco follower but everybody gets stuck on their favorite players. I started learning upright and my first lesson was from Milt Hinton. He had me play his electric bass first. i played some Jaco from Weather Report. He then asked me did i know what i had just played. I told him I played by ear and he said you need to learn theory.

Brand X, nuclear burn, Collins on the drums, Percy on the bass, wow! Love that song, and I'm not really into jazz!

remeber the track by Brand X call Wal to Wal that featured both Percy Jones and Jonh Giblin(both playing fretless Wals).
Product and Do they hurt are fine albums, and both Jones and Giblin are playing some very nice chopes.

When I was at Berklee in 1978 we had a Share Your Favorite Records day in my freshman Harmony class. Nearly everyone in my class played something by either The Doobie Brothers or Steely Dan. I played Eno's "Energy Fools The Magician"

...and henceforth was referred to as "that weird kid" for the rest of the semester.

Percy is one of my all time favorites. I was just listening to the 1978 Brand X album "Masques". A couple highlight tracks:

Brand X - Masques - YouTube

Brand X - Black Moon - YouTube
