Man that's a terrible video... Sure wish Casey was still with them, and that record for all its polish doesn't seem to have the impact that they used to generate.

Anyways, yeah he uses a Dingwall, and he probably dials in just enough gain so that he can control the breakup of the distortion by how hard he hits the strings. I used to play fingerstyle in a metal band, and I had the action set pretty low so I could easily get some impact off the frets if needed. Maybe try that?

Active bass, cut the lows & low mids, boost the highs and mid-highs and don't use a tube amp. That dude has no low end to his tone but maybe it's just the crappy headphones I'm using right now. As far as fingers vs pick, that might be harder to replicate but playing closer to the bridge will help.
