Pete Sears on Bass

I always thought of Pete Sears as a Keyboard player who happened to double on Bass but I saw a DVD of a recent Moonalice show and the guy is no "doubler" he is an excellent bass player. Any thoughts?

I saw him with Jefferson Starship in, I believe, 1982 when they had just released "Freedom at Point Zero". While he doubled on keyboards and David Freiberg doubled on bass, Sears was most definitely THE bass player. He played the living crap of an old Fender Jazz. His playing was very melodic and very solid. I found out later that he played bass on most of their hits. Typed while listening to "Miracles"

I remember him as a bassist for Airplane. A very good one at that.

Guitar Player Magazine did an article on the Starship (before the ill-fated German concert) with Craig C., David F, and Pete S. They delved into a lot of bass stuff with both Sears and Freiberg. Freiberg pointed out that they both used a Precision with half-rounds in the studio (only "Red Octopus" and maybe "Spitfire" were out then so it was before the horrid "We Built This City" crap...). He said he used a P with half-rounds and Pete used a Jazz with rounds in concert. Don't recall mention of amps at the time.

Pete's also on Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells A Story" album, playing keys.

Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells A Story" album was where I first came across him so my impression was that he was a keyboard player. I do remember when Starship, prior to " We built this city" were an interesting band.
