is it Tony Levin? Bass totally moves that song. Would be like "Jack and Diane" without the clapping.

It's Genesis off Abacab and Mike Rutherford played bass and guitar in the studio.

It's what opened my eyes (ears) to the ability to play lead bass in a Pop setting... great tune

yeah, that was 1981... I had been playing about a year when it hit the radio. It made me proud to be a bass player watching non musicians getting all wrapped up in a song that bass was so important in The whole album it pretty good.

here are 2 of my other fav from Abacab.

Yep. it's Mr Mike R. Fantastic overlooked great bassist. "Reply" is one of his best bass lines in the Collins led Genesis era. Another good MR line is from the Mike and the Mechanics "Beggar" album. Check out both "Another Cup Of Coffee" and "Over My Shoulder". Very Fun!

Duke, the album before Abacab, is, depending on the day, either my favorite or second favorite album of all time. Squeeze's Play is the main contender for the # 1 spot on my list..

Brilliant bassline from Mike Rutherford. The highlight of the Abacab album.

Good lord I haven't listened to that song in forever. I forgot how kick ass that bass line was!
