Yup, that's it! Not sure of the double bassist you're referring to, though. Memories of that time are a bit hazy!

No doubt! 1980 was actually when I started moving away from seeing the band. I saw most of the shows I saw between '76 and '79 and then discovered Bootsy, Fela Kuti, etc. I checked in every so often after that, but I found that Brent bothered me more and more, especially the keyboard sounds. While that first east coast tour he did in '79 was pretty wonderful and the blast of new energy felt good, I began to miss Keith, who I felt let the band breath and go to more places. It's probably not fair to attribute all the changes to Brent, but it just felt different as they went into the 80s. Of course, my friends' older brothers all said that about the 70s and that I missed the good stuff that happened in '68 and '69, so what are you going to do?

Anyone here ever play an Irwin bass?

I wasn't yet 19 and that Omni Run had a profound effect on me. I named my daughter Stella.
I was at that run and a couple others at the Omni. Good times, some good shows.

Hm, doesn't ring a bell. Could he have entered the scene after I moved to Colorado in '95? I know Neptune hung on after Shockra broke up for a while.

I'd like in too... My first shows were the "Formerly the Warlocks" run in Hampton '89. I basically got kidnapped by this girl who used to make me copies of shows in high school. She'd seen about 15 shows by that time and kept telling me she was going to make me go with her next time, so I beat her to it and bought tickets to a few shows in October at the Meadowlands. Apparently some of her friends at college got lucky and got us tickets for both nights....

Never had such a good time...

Looking back, I'm pretty sure that I was clueless as to just what exactly was happening those two nights.

For one, I'm fairly certain there wasn't more than an hour or two I wasn't being congratulated on making it to my first shows with some sort of substance.

And then also, I didn't have the historical context that I had a it later on.

Now, though, wow... What an introduction to live Dead!!!

Yeah, if you don't already have them, find some good copies of those shows. They're out there for sure. Great run!

I had them on cassette for a long time... I bought the box set they released a while back and it's fantastic... I think I can see myself in one of the pictures.

^ Cool deal. I bought an official DVD in hopes to see myself in the filler section. (A Cardinal Stadium He's Gone Jam on the Winterland dvd. Can't see me even though I was standing right there where the camera was...)

Heh! Mine was 04/6/71. Getting tickets to NY shows was really tough back then, took me a couple of years to finally succeed.

^Nice. I was still a bit young to be allowed to go to shows. 71 was another good year for the boys.
