Phil Lesh -> Telstar (electronic trio Molitz & Molo)

Wow… this is really fresh sounding stuff from Phil Lesh. It sounds like he is using some whacky synth effects and modulators (not his midi-stuff) for this line-up. I am listening to the Langerado Telstar set right now…weird stuff. You wouldn't know it was Phil. He has an over the top Worrell/Bootsy sound going on, but he still grooves like Lesh and not a real bass player.

Phil Lesh, Steve Molitz and John Molo will play a special trio set as Telstar at Yuri's Night Bay Area on April 12. The single-day event will take place in a massive hanger at the NASA Ames Research Center on Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA, celebrating both Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, and the launch of the first Space Shuttle exactly twenty years later. In addition to Telstar, Molitz will also perform at the event with Particle (who have expanded their lineup to include guest guitarist Brian Jordan). Other artists scheduled to appear include Amon Tobin, Tipper, Freezepop, BLVD with Souleye and MJ Greenmountain vs. Yossi Fine, among many others. The night will also feature a number of other electronic artists, speakers and interactive performances. At Langerado, Lesh, Molitz and Molo previewed their new group’s sound by offering a Telstar interlude between “Unbroken Chain” and “The Golden Road.”

Here is the archive link to the show. Telstar comes out of Unbroken Chain. I posted this thread when I started listening to it for the first time. I had high expectations, but it sort of fizzles out and they didn't really get anything going. I hope they continue to develop this trio. BTW- The Help->Slip is played at warp speed.
