piano vs. bass

so what do you guys think about Ray Manzarek from the doors
he played bass on the piano any thoughts on that?

i just picked up this new dvd release by the doors and it gives a lot of inside info
check it out and tell me what you think

There are no rules in music. I had one of those Rhodes piano bass things he used many years ago, pretty cool but very different in sound and feel of course from a bass. They don't even sound that close to a regular rhodes like the Mark II I've got IMO.

Also remember that the Doors hired some excellent studio bass players for many of their recording sessions.

I think it was a huge part of the Doors sound.

A more modern take on The Doors-
With the Chris Potter Underground, a Fender Rhodes is the 'bass' (Manzarek played a Fender piano bass...exact same range as the Fender bass).
