I remember an early interview with Pino where he we asked about his intonation on his fretless Stingray, and he said something like, "I try not to think about it too much", implying that if he did, it would mess him up! (His intonation has always been great.) I've always liked that.

yeah i remember that too
the thing that is kinda scary is that he doesn't even have fret markers, only dots (3,5,7,9,12,15...) on the side of the fingerboard

in this vid at 1:13, he plays a theme with keyboards (that must be the hardest thing fretless intonation-wise) and i can't even spot one half of an intonation issue (keep in mind he ain't playing fretless that much these days )
