listen to most of fusion artists (al di meola, donald fagen and many more...) and some funk/disco artists (o'jays, chaka khan...) and you'll hear one of the best bass player.

Fasten your seatbelt:

Anthony Jackson w/ Rob Whitlock live

Watch out though - you'll likely find the organ playing to be overkill.

He's not a 'flash' player. Just a really incredible one.
Try this- skip ahead to 2:50 if you get bored again:

Check this out. Spend a dollar and download the full version of Steve Kahn's "The Suitcase."
The first 5 and a half minutes are just AJ solo. The YouTube versions omit this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJXHsbT91pg Possibly. Something happened to my speakers, so this could be wrong.

No, that one doesn't have it- it begins after the solo part.

Why Youtube?! Why not LISTEN to his playing?

That'd mean getting a hold of a copy of "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me" by Chaka Kahn, and a copy of "(For The Love of) Money" with the classic picked and phase-shifter bass part by the Spinners, the Al DiMeola stuff, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Use your ears, not your eyes.

some of my favorite tunes / lines come from his time with Chambers and Khan.

Here is a live take of "Where's Mumphry?"
http://www.myselfalone.com/tracks/Kickin/D1_01.mp3

Make sure you listen on a good system or headphones to get the richness of his tone and the full effect of the complex of his lines / sonic space.

Well, because youtube has audio in addition to video, which facilitates the listening part. And it's an easy way to do an introduction to an artist, as opposed to buying a bunch of stuff he may find out he doesn't like.

This just confirms what I already knew: Anthony Jackson is the greatest single living bass guitarist in the world. The man has total mastery of his instrument. His musical knowledge and facility is second to none, and nobodyhas ever played with cleaner technique than Anthony Jackson.
