ok wow..i have met so many bassist posers over the years..its ridiculous...
for instance, i was at my local guitar shop, checkin out teh 5string fretless' and i started talking with the owner, and he tells me about how some guys come in after playing bass on guitar hero, thinking they can play bass.
O.O was the only face i could make....
thats crazy..guitar hero (as much as i love the game) has really lowered the standards of bassists
so really..random guys, who do well on a video game, all of a sudden think they can b musicians? bassists? guitarists?
so, i kick a lotta butt on halo..so that means i can become in intergallactic super space soldier? no...some of these guys..need 2 b sat down and given a stern talking 2, or at least a slap on the hand....
maybe if guitar her really grasped the awesome power of the bass, then MAYBE people can learn from it, but until then, posers are just think bass is the easiest simplest instrument in the world

That said I do know of several people who after playing those games decide to pickup a real instrument and give it a whirl...and that, in my opinion, is a really good thing.

The girl in the ad after playing one says " I always wanted to be a musician".
I've never touched one but It looks like you just shake the thing to get different tones. I wouldn't be suprised to see someone start up a band playing only these things. |

The video speeds up at weird points when they start playing the song when I watched it. It's not supposed to do that.
There's no need to be a hater. I'm sure we all have our reasons for picking up instruments, and I'm sure that the stories you hear get embellished a little. Sure there's some dudes who think they're all that when they pick up a guitar because they've played Guitar Hero, but there's a lot of people who really want to learn an instrument as a direct result of playing the game. Sure a lot of them end up quitting after a short period of time, but there's some who stick with it. When Ramones came out tons of kids picked up an instrument and started a band because their stuff was so simple. Was that a good thing? Some may disagree, but I think it was a good thing. |

He's got all the Rock Band and Guitar Hero releases and plays them almost daily... he's stopped asking about lessons since now he has a sense of playing / performing from the game.
Not sure what I think of the issue... but I'm sure it'll keep some people from playing that aren't really musically inclined. Maybe it will inspire those with music talent to actually start playing. |

It's a win win for those of us who play!

I don't really think I know anyone who is that retarded...

I also think it's great that it has inspired some people to learn an instrument or a new instrument and even if most of the people quit the real instruments, atleast there will be some that will actually become musicians. The ones who quit will probably gain a new respect for people that actually do play too.
For the people that actually believe that they are musicians (or rock gods) because they are good at the games, well that's just hilarious. |

He would always be playing 'air bass' and rocking out to some non-existent music trying to look cool.
Somehow he made it into the jazz band, so there were two bassists (him and myself). I worked hard at learning the charts and playing in time, but he would ruin it because he would just be looking at my fretting hand and be following what I was playing, a second behind me. I used to turn his amp down when he wasn't looking to help the rhythm section stay together. He usually didn't notice...
He would always talk about how great of a bass player he was and how he played with other famous musicians.
One day, he brought in a CCR record (that's right, an LP) and claimed he had recorded the bass tracks on it. When I pointed out that his name was nowhere on the credits, he said it was because he was too young to be given credit, so they put his uncle's name on the album.
I think back to this guy and I crack up. I have no idea what he's up to (although I might go look him up on Facebook). |

It gives some people an interest in really learning about the subject of the game. However, it also gives some overconfident pricks the impression that real life is just like a videogame. Ignore the later group and they'll go away soon enough. |

I don't know - I think those games are fun. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
