I have been part of my church's worhsip team since May. I figure it's the greatest gift that I can give back. Actually played this past Sunday here the set list.

The time has come-Hillsong United
Oh You Bring (used a fretless on this one)-Hillsong United
Death in his grave (fretless again)-John Mark McMillan
Arms open wide-Hillsong United
This is our God-Hillsong

Can I get a member number for this thread?!

You should also think about playing We Will Run. The 3/4 time during the instrumental/bridge is really fun to play. We played it for the National Fine Arts Festival in Louisville during our worship set and it was awesome. We also play Beautiful Things during our youth group on Sunday nights!!

Welcome to the new guys! I'm sure numbers will be along shortly...

So, I'm back with a bump after a month off. Assuming the bass player is actually around this week (awaiting confirmation) I'm MD and second soprano bassist. I won't say rhythm guitar as the lead guitarist is still quite new and I figure we'll be swapping lead and rhythm parts between us. We're meeting up tonight to jam it through in advance of Sunday.

Then I'm also playing bass Friday night to help out the youth band, with two songs that are new to me.

Friday setlist:
Get Up - Planetshakers
Here For You - Matt Redman
Jump Around - Planetshakers
(and possibly I Surrender - Hillsong)

Sunday setlist:
The Time Has Come - Hillsong
Our God Is Love - Hillsong
Power In The Name - I Am Future
Forever Reign - Hillsong
Run - Hillsong

Power In The Name is a great song, only just released but we sang it at a worship training day back in October. Even after this long I could remember the chorus and bridge word-for-word and note-for-note, as could all the other team members who were there. Excited to see how well it goes down with the congregation.

It was great to fill in a different gap...but...I still wanna play bass. I hope this doesn't mean my bass days are over!
If it's ok with you guys I'd still like to call myself a bass player
Stay flexible, stay serving, stay willing... and see where it leads! I was mainly acoustic guitar and worship leader for 15 years or so, with some not very good electric playing. Over the last two or three years I've really developed my lead guitar playing and started playing bass (quite a lot), stepped back from leading worship to give more gifted people more room and found myself as MD on and off-stage.

We all have preferences as to what we play (I'm guessing bass in most cases!) but it's surprising what directions you can end up going in if you surrender your talents and your time.

In my experience, bassists and guitarists come and go. If you stay in one place you'll find the requirements are always shifting around you.

This Sunday's list:

Awakening - Chris Tomlin
Never Once - Matt Redman
Forever Reign - Hillsong
Come To Me - Jenn Johnson (Bethel Music)
Carry Your Name - Cristy Nockels

The last 2 are new to us this week... both are very strong songs - musically and lyrically. I'm thinking I'll be on fretless for those two.

Perserverence

Well.

The brothers who were our mainstay lead guitar and drummer are off to college. Good luck to them! Doom on us.

Our new drummer has not really played in over 35 years, and doesn't know CC music. He does show promise, though.

Our other bass/drummer had shoulder surgery (again) this summer and it is not healing well. Drumming is not now possible, bass for short stints.

Our Mandobird/guitarist has a work schedule that is always in flux. He is good about the "no rehearsal, no service," rule, but it is hard to know when he will be gone.

Our rhythm guitar with back troubles is having to take more lead work. He is giving it his best, but blues licks do not work for all music. He will do fine.

I am going to be playing some guitar this year when needed, to fill in the gaps.

Our MD is taking a medical leave from work, and has requested the church find someone to take over choir and handbells so she can focus on us.

And we all love our ministry!

We must really be doing something good to have all these stumbling blocks appearing in our path.

Steve,
Thanks man! We Shall Overcome. What a great song that I totally overlooked!!!
Beautiful Things is a disc I often use for personal times of worship and praise, and I haven't really listened to it for congregational use.
This one is definitely making the communion round soon.

Welcome endrew_karloS
How cool is this forum that we can connect as a community of musicians from all over the world, serving our resurrected savior who is alive and well. Helping each other in advice in technical matters or life situations or encouragement or just a vent of frustration or a spew of silliness.
I ....... am not ..... Indonesian.
I'm in Alabama.
