Meaningful work, in whatever form it is, is a gift from God. It's a blessing, a gift, to be able to play in worship.......I don't need a bible verse to figure that out. |

One of our two keyboard guys can cover the low stuff if needed - and honestly it probably sounds better from keys than bass.

Doug | thanks. MRI isn't for another week and a half, so the next week will consist of me using Aleve and a heating pad at work, and Vicodin and Ice at home. Not planning on doing much else.
I have a 3-day class/seminar for work that I am looking forward to, but I am not looking forward to sitting for 8 hours. I will probably need to arrive early and talk to the instructor and sit in the back.

Doug | Thanks Doug!!! The compliments are greatly appreciated; that is exactly what I try to do, lay the foundation and be as solid as possible.
Yes, the recording is straight from the board. The ambiance is there live, just not on the recording.
Thank you to everyone leaving comments; they are appreciated. Feel free to offer more!!! Thanks guys and God Bless this weekend!!! Let's lift up the name of the One True God, the Lord Jesus!!! |

Good luck with the MRI (I've had 3 for my back so far over the years). Advice of having good music with you is huge. They should offer you a sedative as well. Take it if they do. Good luck and Gods blessings. |

I'm operating on 4 strings only until my custom build is finished and, as much as I enjoy my Squier, I miss my low notes. Some songs are fine but with others I resent having to go up to D or Eb. And not being able to hit a low C or B and let it ring does sadden me a little.
We just have one keyboard and have worked hard on all playing together and not clashing. I'm not going to ask the keys to avoid the low notes unless they're below E for the next 3 months.

I would LOSE MY MIND if I didn't get to hit low B's and C's (or even low D's) full stop. 5-string is the ONLY bass I'll play these days.

I guess I could drop tune my E strings....but I use that often as well.....
I personally love having the 5th string availabel...use it or not....also, IMHO the E string sounds better on a fiver...maybe it is having 2 poles (1 on each side of the E) or longer magnets that allow the E to flow between magnetic fields....dunno...but it sounds "fuller" to me than on a four banger

The good thing is my bass playing has significantly reduced over the next month. I play tomorrow, and then for church, I am off until December. 11/11 is my birthday weekend, and my wife and I are tentatively planning a trip. 11/19, we are going Reno with some friends for a few days, and the next weekend, we are inviting a guest group to lead worship.
I have 2 gigs for my secular band on 11/15 and 11/16, and then we are off for a bit.

I had a touch of dirt dialed in on the VT Bass so she growled a bit when I dug into an octave. Was just having way too much fun to miss a low C.

I use the B string all the time and bounce higher octaves on the "and" count a lot if I'm not doing some kind of run or walking up or down. I do a lot of kinda hammer ons of the root on the B string in the middle of stuff. Had some guy point that out to me recently. I'd never noticed that before. Just the way I play!
I Love my B enough to go BEAD on a 4 banger.

From the Valley (The Civil Wars) D
Before the Throne of God Above (Hymn #448) (Shane and Shane Version) D (they do it in F) This song is kicking my butt to learn, OUCH!!
Rock of Ages (When the Day is Long) (Sandra McCracken) D
Came to My Rescue (HillSong) C
Tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon is Earthen Vessels Practice for about 4 hours. Yeah.
Sojourn Churches WL really likes his obscure stuff. Again I've only heard the one HillSong song before and I've never really played it before but it's in my head already and I know it well enough. The others are stretching me!!
