I'm on overload from church and the conference this weekend which was basically 5 services with different teams and speakers with a hour and 15 to an hour and 45 of Worship ( I did not play but would have loved to) at about 2 1/2 hours of each total for each session from Friday to this morning and then no band practice for Earthen Vessels because of folks out of town and then I skipped Worship at Sojourn Church because I didn't get a set list until 2 in the afternoon after I already made planes, headed out and didn't have my gear with me. We have spoken about prep time and all that so he was not really expecting me after all. I am heading down to Miami later in the week to pick up a new cabinet! It's a used but really nicely built 2x10 BFM Omni (jack) cabinet with nice Eminence speakers and a nice horn array setup. I'm just not crazy about my Hartke 15 cab so this should spice things up some. Looking forward to a different sound to tweak.

If you don't find Salvation Is Here" challenging, then you are a better player than I am. I can play it, but it took a lot of work--probably as much as any song that I've ever learned. | Sounds pretty challenging to me. If you watch video footage those fingers are busy. He's definitely striking using more than 2 fingers.
I predominately use 2 for striking and the rest for muting. Occasionally breaking out a third for certain strikes but mostly only when shifting back towards my body or when playing octaves. This actually made me think about what I'm doing with my hands. Thinking hurts!
Thanks for the post. I wasn't familiar with this song. This will be another one that helps me push the personal envelope. The last one was Furious. It was too fast for my finger style capabilities so I started learning with a pick.

I guess I should probabably say we played a VERSION of "Salvation Is Here"... A little slower, a lot less instrumentation, a little simpler bass.....
We hadn't had a decent rendition in 3 practices, but our leader decided to push ahead. Frankly, I expected a train wreck. But it seems to have pulled together OK. I hope we keep working on it, and get it down better. I do like the song.

Update:
In Indy, aka the Circle City, we have a big event, downtown on the Monument Circle, the Friday evening after Christmas. It's known as the Circle of Lights - where they string Christmas lights down from the monument, and light them, designating it as the "world's largest Christmas tree". The event regularly pulls around 100,000 people on the Circle, plus televised live (locally, of course), and has about a 2 hour show full of Christmas-themed entertainment. Our Worship team has been asked to serve as the "house band" for this, the 50th anniversary of the Circle of Lights (no, I didn't attend the first, but yes, I was around then... ). It's gonna be an incredibly cool event, and we are all very honored that our God has led us here. Set List:
This Christmas (Christina Aguilera
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Jingle Bells (cool swing version)
Holly Jolly Christmas Medley
Joy to the World
Angels We Have Heard on High
All I Want for Christmas is You (Mariah Carey)
Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee)

Goodbye 16-year-old decrepit TKO, Hello Roland TD-11KV!
We'll be setting it up and dialing it in Saturday morning. I don't play drums, but am still excited! | (Is there a rule you shouldn't quote yourself? Since this drum topic has come up a couple times, I thought I should document our initial experience.)
After our service, our drummer du jour (who is also one of our bassists) said, "These make me sound so good! I'm less self-conscious and can just play and not worry so much about being too loud or too soft." She was really excited, and I thought she really did play better than I have heard from her in some time.
We did a rough set-up on Saturday, and picked a stock kit that sounded generally good in the room. Once we can spend some time fine tuning, and getting a good monitor mix on the kit, things will sound even better.
Before committing the funds, we went back and forth several times over acoustic vs. electronic; electronic eventually won out because of the controllability factor, and the physical size. I hope that we will hear some congregational comments via the MD at rehearsal tonight.

My sister (worship leader) and her husband (electric guitar) were both coming down with bad colds while we were away. While my brother-in-law just about survived, and we swapped lead and rhythm parts, my sister tried one song in soundcheck and realised it wasn't going to work. It was a good example of teamwork though and the other two singers shared the leading. It was helpful almost that everyone on stage is or has been a WL!
Back on bass this week:
Evermore
Our God Is Love
From The Inside Out
Our God (for baptisms)
In Your Freedom
I miss my 5er!
