I take my Philly and fusion era background mix it with. A John Mayer type guy an old Southern rocker, a Nigerian neosoul guy and a kid playing Third Day and the you get us, Victory Chapel's Praise Team. The reggae inspired stuff might be laughed at in Kingston, oh well.

MRI itself went well. I fell asleep during part of it, which was nice. I needed the nap. | Prayers going up for you brother.

On our CD we'd have to have a hidden reggae track though. And a remix album with all songs done in a reggae style.
Years ago I discovered the wonderful fact that any song in 4/4 can be performed in a reggae or ska style. Fun with Christmas carols...

Particularly in the midst of vertical worship of our Lord. There are a number of churches around my area that use secular songs in their services and it is something I'm not very comfortable with in general, however, taking a step back I understand certain placement of said songs.
Some use the songs or a piece thereof as an intro for a message or a segway yet I know of at least one that is using them directly within the worship set. The latter is what I take great issue with.

When we've done secular songs they've been as an intro or a specific piece before/during the sermon with a direct link to the message.

Definitely the ska version of Go Tell It On The Mountain. I think O Little Town Of Bethlehem may have morphed into more of a calypso beat. Just one verse of For Unto Us A Child Is Born. And I can't remember if we did the reggae version of Joy To The World - pretty sure we did do the punk version though.

As far as the different genre's, I believe God uses us in worship where we are accustomed to and also believe that He reaches us through what we are accustomed to. I grew up on hard rock and, although I love other styles, that music really drives me.
I think the important thing is that the song is about Jesus and glorifies Him and not men.
