I know we're going through the numbers fairly quickly but I think the second coming may happen first.

Funny thing... I just had to look back on the list and see if someone ever assigned member #666. Someone did, to a "Mr. S" and they were "banned for life!"

New thread... new comment.

I finally got to hear my REDDI bass tone from offstage at a local venue last Sunday. I told our other bassist to play my bass and I came back to where the FOH was. HOLY LORD! No wonder these sound guys love it. It's phenomenal. The tone is nothing like I hear it coming out of my amp/monitor even. So much clarity and depth through MAINS speakers and subs it's really amazing.

just had to share... it's literally the best bass DI out there. Get one if you can.

The tone is exactly like an Ampeg B15. It's unreal. They get it all out of this schematic too. Not sure how?

Can it drive a power amp on its own?

It has a thru output, but that's straight from the bass.

You can AB/Y the OUT port using one of these... which is what I do.

...and then FOH gets it's own signal from the REDDI, and you can do whatever the heck you want with the other signal. I run mine back into my amp onstage as my monitor. I can fiddle with my tone however I want to then, without upsetting the sound person, who is still getting the clean, FAT, tube, direct signal from the REDDI.

I've heard that some people use these straight into regular power amp>speaker rigs instead of stock bass amps/cabs, so yeah, I guess you could use it that way. You'd need a separate rack mount EQ then though, which starts getting a little crazy. Unless that's what you're into?

I wouldn't consider it a "preamp" if that's what you mean. Not in the true sense of the word at least.

I thought that it was based on the b15 preamp section or at least close to it. That's why it sounds so much like a b15 when going through FOH. Without the adjustable tone stack. It's just set at the designer's "optimum" setting and then adjustable through an eq on a sound board. But that's what I read somewhere. I could be wrong about the based on a b15 part but it is definitely a tube preamp. Just no adjustment capability.

I don't have my own DI. I had a quick look at the cost of the REDDI out of interest. I still don't have my own DI.

Nope. The REDDI has minimal gain. It was originally designed as a studio-only DI, but they sound so much larger than life, that they get pressed into duty for all sorts of other things. The lack of add-ons like gain, EQ, etc. is part of the reason for the pristine, rounded tone.

Premium piece of kit, but actually pretty cheap compared to a lot of high-end studio gear.

My biggest problem with it, is that the tube DI out on my Genz Benz Streamliner is so good. It's THIS close to the sound, price and weight of a REDDI, and it comes with little extras like a semi-parametric switchable pre/post 3-band EQ, flexible tube OD, gain and mute buttons, an effects loop, headphone output, a terrific HPF, sexy blue LED's...

...oh yeah, and a free 800w mono power amp with modelled tube sag!
