Oh well, that's the last such rehearsal - it's the big show itself next week. Looking forward to well over 1000 people coming over the three services based on (free) tickets.

I can't wait to get home next week and start the rehearsals, since my 5 is in England I'm borrowing my mates steinburger 5 over Christmas, it will be fun to play another instrument for a while

Not sure I'll get my new one in time, just hoping it arrives in time to be a Christmas present to myself. It now has a neck attached!
Funnily enough, this is pretty low-stress due to each person doing just what they need to. I'm sure it's stressful for the producers though.

I'm really glad to be singing rather than playing bass for this one! I will have to ask the bassist who is playing exactly what he does do with the finale, the Hallelujah chorus. We did a straight run through the program and then the WL announced a 5 minute break before we worked backwards through the program to touch up some things. This gave the choir's trickmaster-in-chief the opening she needed. After the break the WL gives the downbeat, the piano comes in as usual, and the rest of the orchestra gives us the loveliest rendition of the Hallelujah chorus you could imagine using the kazoos they had been issued for a comedy sketch earlier in the program!

Had a fun practice tonight on electric guitar with the youth band. WL on acoustic and a hard-rocking backline of teenage drummer, me on humbucker-equipped strat through a cooking Fender tube amp, and bassist on Gibson Thunderbird slung somewhere below his knees! We had a good time chatting about basses - he knows how to play them, I know a fair bit about gear and what would be a good bass for his nephew to start with.
As well as the Thunderbird he also brought his Jaydee (in metallic pink - none more '80s!). Heavy but very versatile, killer slap tone, sustain for years - but it just doesn't do rock as well as something like the Thunderbird or my P Special. So that saved me a few ££££s in future purchases.

Keep it up all you wonderful people. As for me, I just want to be good enough (someday) to play in church and give Our Lord His due!!! |

It went pretty well and there is a rinse and repeat tomorrow night. The kazoos remained silent except during their bit. Hopefully a few lives were changed too. Afterward there were cookies, many cookies, and cocoa. Mmmmm.

Back in the 90's and early 2000's it was really a bit depressing to be an England cricket fan.
And as for the Jaydee... ugh. I've never liked them. Played one years ago once and it was awful. The 8 strings just totally messed with my technique and I had to just give it back to they guy who was showing it to me with disgust. Nice basses, but I'm not sure why they're so highly rated to be honest. ?? Just my opinion, other people love them.

I didn't have such a strong reaction to the Jaydee. I could appreciate the workmanship and versatility but it definitely wasn't for me.

I know Mark King of Level 42 would argue with me there... but he's not on here. haha
