Montana Mike,
Do you like your Will Lee 5 better than the Metro? I'm thinking hard about one of these, but kinda hard to justify the purchase. I have 4 basses, and pretty much only play the 6 anyway. Thanks,
Alan

Steve,
That is quite a group of songs for 2 sets. That's a lot of work for one evening, congrats!
Hope everyone has a safe and blessed New Year...

Alan, interesting questions since they are so different. They both sound great and play great. The NYC feels better because he nut width is a touch narrower. Roger doesn't make a wl5 in a metro yet either and I'm a 5 guy. I played 6 for a bit but never used the C at church, not much soloing. The 5 let's me have my space.

ThE WL has sooo much character and my sound guy loves it. It sits in the mix really well, better than anything I've every played. That is a typical SADOWSKY trait.

I would have another built if something happened to this one.

Mike

You can hear it on our Christmas service.

Mike,
Ash or Alder? Does your Metro have split P/J pickups? Do you like the singles on the WL?
Does the WL have the VTC and mid-boost circuit? How about the necks? Any difference in radius? Or just nut width? I don't use the C at Church either, but it is just a bad,bad bass. It is a Washburn that was made for a major bass player at the '96 NAMM show. He insisted on Duncan Live Wires and preamp. I had the body stripped and re-done with a custom paintjob and 15 coats of nitrocullelose. I can light it on stage and once the flame is out, just wipe the smoke off and no damage. I'll try and send you a pic. Thanks for the Sadowsky info....

Alan,
  • Ash: love the scoop.
  • Metro is a modern 5-24 so it has 2 soapbars towords the bridge and has 24 frets.
  • I Love single coils, huge tone complexity and focus.
  • Yes it has VTC and mid-boost. As far as I know the VTC comes on all Sadowsky's and the Mid-boost is WL only and it gives you the P bass thing.
  • Neck radius in 12" in the 5 and 10" or so on the 4, I think?
  • Nut width on the 4 is 1.45 and the 5 is 1.75.
  • The best part of the C at church is as a conversation piece.
  • One of the best parts is it is under 8 pounds.

Dang pyrotechnics at church. Very cool and progressive. I guessing you don't do this during the traditional service. Sounds like a great bass.

Do you have any issues with the fragility of the Nitro?

Blessings, Mike

I am playing this Sunday, yeah! But, rehearsal for tonight got blown off Very frustrating when you know there's SO much room for improvement. So I'll pray, keep practicing and do my part to the best of my abilities.

So I've been playing in my current church's worship band for about a year now.

I seem to be looked down upon because not only am i the youngest person in the band but i am also the only one without any "formal" training.

For an example, i have owned and played a fretless P for about 2 years now. First time i brought it to practice the WL looked at it and said "Oh cool a fretless!" and proceeded to spend 10 minutes explaining to me how to play a fretless.

Other examples are band members explaining to me what arpeggios are and how to play them, when if they would just open their ears they would realize... I'VE BEEN PLAYING ARPEGGIOS FOR THE PAST YEAR!!!

They do this about almost everything, octaves, tuning, my pickup height, my strings, my intonation... list goes on.

It's driving me crazy.

Most of the time i just nod and then walk away but one of these times i might just snap... Really don't want to do that.

I play in 2 original bands which i have written most of the material for and they treat me like an equal and they aren't believers, but my church band seems to assume i don't know anything and if they didn't tell me how to hold it I'd be playing the bass upside down.

Really just had to get that off my chest...

Wow, Mr L. Sounds like you are an accomplished musician. Sorry your current congregation makes you feel like that. I hope you can get the issues worked out, as being able to play at Church really is a blessing and a gift....

Re-reading that post i came off much harsher than i had planned, i didn't mean to say there is nothing i could learn from them as there is always more to learn and they are very prestigious technical musicians (they all have degrees in music theory and the like) and i respect their experience but me being the youngest of the group at 18 and them all in their 30s and 40s and i just feel as though i am being seen as some beginner who needs to be spoon fed, which is frustrating.

I really do enjoy playing with them, when we are playing, it's the things that happen when the music stops that erk me.
