You can't see me in any of the pics cuz I'm in the backline next to the drummer. I played the EBMM SR5 Classic thru my REDDI and Traynor DB300T. Awesome. Fat. Growl. nuff said.
And then one from my own iphone during soundcheck.

@SamSound - LOVE that video. Instantly recognized what you were quoting. Here is a link for those of you that missed the reference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzqaITA3IO0. Remember folks, this is a humorous look at church, not something to strive for.

i usually play every other week as our church has a pretty healthy amount of musicians and two campuses. I think we have 4 bass players on the team and we all take turns playing.. keeps things fun

I slipped on ice at the church just after Christmas, and damaged my neck a little (it's OK now, praise God), so I used a GC voucher to buy a wide leather strap to reduce the pressure on the sore areas. Most wide leather straps were in the $50-$60 range, but this one was $14, and is a huge step up in comfort from my previous nylon one.

A few worship-related questions for you.
I introduced myself a long time ago so for the record I play bass for my Church's praise team in Lyon, France.
Lyon is the second largest French city, and our Church average attendance is around 200 every Sunday (Evangelical free Church), which is ridiculous by US standards but quite good by French ones...
We mainly chose our songs in a series of songbooks (I would not call them hymnals) called JEM (Youth With A Mission aka YWAM), which currently lists around 950 songs.
The Series started in the late 70s and know includes French translations of Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, Hillsong and the likes.
We do sing between 7 to 10 songs every Sunday (one weekly service so far).
The thing is, there is a fine line between introducing enough new songs to keep things moving and introducing too many songs to the extent of the assembly's not being able to keep up and correctly learn the songs.
So my question is: how do you guys select the songs? Have you determined a specific pool of songs to draw from, slowly introducing new songs and retiring old ones? If so, how large is the "pool"? How many songs?
With our 900+ songs and ten songs/Sunday, this is of course far too wide an assortment...
We play mostly contemporary worship, and old hymns in a "contemaporary" way (i.e. 99% of the songs are played with bass, drums, guitars and keyboards. No lone piano or solo pipe organ)
Thanks for your time!

I ordered a recent "2nd edition" of a book aimed at church sound and it became blatant, within the first few chapters of the 450+ pages, these sorts of books should not be written by single authors, but a team; or at least be validated by real experts in the various disciplines. Sound wise, this book offers something (I wish I could put a quantitative value to this), but technically has so many holes it could be called a collander! And, in all the 450+ pages, with 10 or so pages directly speaking about hearing loss, not a single mention of hearing loops (a must in any so-called multi-generational church). And this collection of gaffs is only but the latest I've seen while hunting down a suitable course/DVD/book etc.
Is it any wonder ?

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2012 Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland | | | When we introduce a new song, we will generally play it before the service and tell people it's new (in the background) or when it comes up on the play order we will:
Play through it once just the band,
Get the congregation to sing the chorus then introduce the verses etc.
We would then play that song every week in some form to get people familiar with it. If it's not being used in the service we would play it quietly afterwards etc.
As in terms of how many to learn we usually do about 1 per month. We still use all of the old songs, whatever really ties in with the themes of the talk or what the minister/pastor (insert name) would like to portray. Generally the easiest ones to choose are the communion ones due to the obvious theme there.
Hope that helps a bit
