The Sr Pastor is a real guitar fan so we get to so some really fun stuff. Eric Johnson, Allman Brothers...

New ones are on top. The "pool" is stuff we've already nailed down.

I am a little bummed as my folks were suppose to be in town and they normally attend when the are, but, they couldn't get here. My Dad does not attend regularly and my hope was, and continues to be, that if I play regularly that he will start attending and accept Christ like I have. | WE shall have to pray about that!

And the guy who was due to be singing at tonight's coffee house-style meeting asked to swap, so I'm playing acoustic and singing tonight. I'm doing two recently-written originals. I'm praying people get something from them, that I don't forget my own lyrics and that my deteriorating voice holds out!

We were planning to buy a new Presonus anyway, but they don't come out until April...

Our God
Mighty To Save
Here With Me
When The Stars Burn Down
Rescue
The mix was really good today after fighting it quite a bit yesterday in rehearsal. Personally, for the bass, I find that the more I roll off the neck pickup, the better the bass sits in the mix and I eliminate mud. Right now I am at 50% neck and 100% bridge. Other than a few issues on intros it was a good day. I counted off Our God and the drummer started about 50% faster than I counted. I turned quickly in panic and gave him a not so subtle 'talk to the hand' gesture and he abruptly stopped and then came in later with the rest of us......whew.

During rehearsal a couple of weeks ago, the drummer and I started feeling a Latin/Bossa feel in the rhythm. Normally, our W/L tries to repress this, but this week, he ran with it.
The result was nothing less than amazing.

Also the choir song today, Unto The Lamb (Seville/Knight), had something I thought I would never see: a written out bass guitar part! Not fully, it was about half written out, half here are the chords -- fake something, but that is a lot more than I have ever seen before. If someone would transcribe Abraham Laboriel's bass lines I would have a better shot at playing them. As it is I spend hours trying to figure out a few measures and even then I only get some of it.
My next big assignment is singing in a mass choir with an orchestra, a joint effort by three local churches. I can tell already that it will be a great time, for everyone, on every level.

| | | | Well, today was quite different. I played bass, acoustic guitar(I even had a solo!) and I played banjo for the first time ever for a song. It was fun but very different!

Ken | It helps to dance while you're playing.

It was fun but very different! | I played Irish tenor banjo before I played bass guitar. Recently we did 'Be Thou My Vision' in the style of Rend Collective Experiment and I got to beak it out in church. Great fun. I'm thinking of putting together a set of tunes for St. Patrick's day. Probably lead off with 'The Man Who Died and Rose Again'. Need to think of another jig or two with Christian theme titles and end with a couple of reels. Any suggestions?

Keys is also the church organist / choir director; who is paid as a part time position. Keep in mind this is a small church, typically 60 to 80 people in the pews. Single service on Sunday mornings. We have a blended service, open with contemporary praise music, and have traditional hymm & organ fare through the service. About once a month the PB comes back and does the last song instead of a hymm.
There is about zip for a budget for musicans or equipment, so we run what we brung and make a joyful noise.
As our band was growing and we needed PA system, mixing board, mics etc. the guitar player and I split the costs and we considered this additional tithe, as it is now church property.
However I never considred my playing to be in lieu of tithe.
