A friend recently fitted a Status neck to one of his Jazzes. Apparently there isn't much of a weight difference.

Yes, Dave The Bass, it is. I love it. I've never seen anyone playing one of these. A good friend of mine plays a Modulus 6. Did you leave yours stock? I have no idea what pups came factory...
Thanks,
Alan

I know several golden rules. You're gonna have to specify for me.

Ah, that one. Yes, I know that one.

It's hard, though, when you start playing for a church that prior to then had no keyboardist, just a bass and a drummer... and the bass player plays melodies, not basslines.

He's gotten better since. lol

^^^ that is not the usual argument, I assure you (but funny, nonetheless).

I'm not a great fan of this kind of music, but a perfect example of overplaying on piano...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvA6gxXoPno

... I'm definitely using this as an example in future discussions with our lot.

Weird.

My dad always said the golden rule was:

If you make a small mistake on bass, smile and keep playing. If you really mess up, turn and glare at the piano player...

Sorry, my humour may have got lost in my deleting the "over" on "overplaying". That girl's hands are hardly touching the keys. The busiest guys are the drummer and bassist (I think in that order).

Your Dad would have approved then when I play (yes, keys get regular scowls! - I should add because it is I who am not yet able to tell which chord they're deciding to use).

Mine was stock until about a year ago, the preamp gave out and I replaced it with a Bartolini NTBT two-band wih an active/passive option......it's really nice to be able to get one sound with the active preamp and then bypass it for a completely different tone. Makes me love the bass even more than I already did.....

I use my iPad and ART for that. I only opened mainstage to take a look around and not really knowing how I would use it. I closed it out and haven't gone back to it. It looks like it would be a great tool, if I had it on something a bit more mobile. I should look into it more. Let me know more on it when you get more accustomed to it.

Shwooo ok I got confused at first I though to my self wow how could that be overplaying and then I even noticed how far to the right she was playing on the keyboard and how close together her hands always were
Also how great it was that the upright player started with a bow and later switched to finger great musicians.

SteverR - hilarious sound guy video. I'm glad I wan't that busy on the board. Although it was nice to be there to tweak things for every song. It is amazing how inconsistent amateur vocalists can be with levels. That desire to tweak was part of my stress when I started doing vocals, had to learn to set it and let it go.

Having 200 people worship together is nver ridiculous!

I do have to say I am jealous - you get to play 7-10 songs, I get to play 4-5...

Our MoM picks the songs with the Sr. Pastor based on the theme for the weekend. It is amazing how often we learn a new song for "later on" and it just matches up perfectly with the message. Must be a God thing going on there.

A few worship-related questions for you.

I introduced myself a long time ago so for the record I play bass for my Church's praise team in Lyon, France.
Lyon is the second largest French city, and our Church average attendance is around 200 every Sunday (Evangelical free Church), which is ridiculous by US standards but quite good by French ones...

We mainly chose our songs in a series of songbooks (I would not call them hymnals) called JEM (Youth With A Mission aka YWAM), which currently lists around 950 songs.
The Series started in the late 70s and know includes French translations of Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, Hillsong and the likes.

We do sing between 7 to 10 songs every Sunday (one weekly service so far).

The thing is, there is a fine line between introducing enough new songs to keep things moving and introducing too many songs to the extent of the assembly's not being able to keep up and correctly learn the songs.

So my question is: how do you guys select the songs? Have you determined a specific pool of songs to draw from, slowly introducing new songs and retiring old ones? If so, how large is the "pool"? How many songs?

With our 900+ songs and ten songs/Sunday, this is of course far too wide an assortment...

We play mostly contemporary worship, and old hymns in a "contemaporary" way (i.e. 99% of the songs are played with bass, drums, guitars and keyboards. No lone piano or solo pipe organ)

Thanks for your time!

I'm jealous - we get to play 1-3 songs...

Our pastor is only about six months on board, but he and the MD do communicate. Which is nice.

If/When we get to two services later in the year, I'm sure that will increase.

Oh, yeah... for those of you whose praise teams suffer from Chris Tomlin-itis, that's cupcakes compared to Israel Houghton-itis.

We're doing "Inside" by Jared Anderson this week. Such a great song. And I get to copy some great bass work by Don Harris. Unfortunately,.we always cut this one short, so we never get to that breakdown section.
