If you are actively involved in any kind of Christian music ministry, be it something as basic as playing bass on the Sunday Morning praise team at your home church, to anything as grand as being in a globally famous, globally renowned, globally touring Christian band, any style of music from adult contemporary, to the heaviest of the heavy, to the wierdest of the wierd, or anywhere in-between, so long as the lyrical content, and band mission is biblically focused, then stand up and be counted! (Literally, I will be assigning member#s)
Tell us about your ministy, about how long you've been in it, about what kind of music you do, are you more praisey, more preachy, a little of both, are your lyrics real literal, or more symbolic, more overt, or more vague. Share any pics, flix, or sound clips you have.
The bible calls us to be united as the body of Christ, and what better way for people who are a) Christian b) Bassists, and c) giving some degree (anywhere from a little bit, to everything they have) of their lives to music ministry, music to reach the lost and encourage the found, to unite than to have a club?! |

| | | | Greetings! Not playing today, but I've got some major practicing to do. In addition to my bass duties our dirctor also wants me to start playing some acoustic guitar as well. Got four songs I've got to work on today to try and have ready by Tuesday's practice! Should be interesting to see if I can pull this one off. Got a lot of household things to do as well so I better get moving.
Have a great one! |

Morning rehearsal with no drummer, no acoustic guitars and then half way thru our keyboard feels like she's going to throw-up so she disappears to the restroom. So we wait for her to return but she doesn't...now we are down to WL, 2 vocals and me on Bass. 5 minutes before service our sound engineer waves me over to a young man that just walked in standing front row. I walk up to the young man and introduce myself and ask him if he plays drums?( Hey! I'm searching for a miracle from God to walk in. I told our Backup WL this morning that I prayed this week that God will provide us with a drummer and I believe that it'll happen.) The young man says," Yes, I do play the drums, but, give me an hour to rehearse with your band first." He hadn't been in church for several years and he and his family was there today for his nieces Baptism. I told him we have only 5 minutes before service. Song set is all slow songs except one for offering(Ten Simple Rules by Mercy Me). I told him that's cool if you don't feel up to it but if God lays it on your heart to play just walk up. I found out that we had a walk up for Acoustic guitar while I was talking with the young man, never has played with us before. So we get her setup and formed our prayer circle and just before we started to pray...the young man bolts up and asked if there was room for one more? WooHoo and a huge AMEN God!!! The entire service went great! The walkups did just great! I did the intros on my Bass!
After the service I talked with the young man(Jason) and he told me that he hadn't played drums for 15 years! I told Jason you can play with us anytime! He's from Traverse City,Mi which is 90 miles south of us but is planning on moving this way in the near future. Wow! What a blessing to see God answer prayer and provide for out time in need!

Worship Set:
Everyone - A
Our God - A
Blessed Be Your Name - B
You Never Let Go - B
Special Music/Offering (added Wednesday night practice):
Message of the Cross -
Closing Song:
Grace - F
Saturday night we didn't have our electric guitar player who was feeling ill but he was there Sunday morning for us.
Sunday morning prayer group before practice was really worthwhile. All the guys were having problems with work during the week, I kicked it off complaining about my workload and being a 'fixed asset' where I work (no raise until other salaries catch up with mine), and we wound up going through Philippians 4. Rejoice!
Great services, got our attitudes straight. I locked in and went simple this week, let the low B string rumble lowly underneath.

A young man we were able to lead to the Lord recently on a missions trip, he's part of our youth group, first name Jake...
We learned this morning he was taken to a local hospital with chest pains, then moved to Children's Hospital in Detroit due to the sriousness of his condition. Please pray for him and his family.

I tried using a pick (which I am very bad at) and it made me a little louder but still way to quiet. Not sure if I need a different bass (maybe a Thunderchief) or if I will just need to bring my small practice amp. This acoustic is neat but I am not finding it very handy.

It is a small countryside congregation and it's in Total Shock, Of course this doesn't directly effect me in not playing as it does the Church because I play and travel with a Pro Southern Gospel Quartet. It does sadden my heart because it will be impossible for this little Church to replace him |

I just needed to vent and would appreciate any thoughts on this.
Being a Baptist myself, I sometimes worry that the pastor of my wife's church, a lutheran church, where we attend, might say something. For almost 15 years nothing has been said, and at this point I don't think anything will be.
I got to play tonight filling in for the regular bassist, and it all went very well.
Our set:
I give you my heart
Holiness (take my life)
Refiner's fire
Lord, you are more precious than silver & I exalt thee (combined)
My life is in you, Lord
Walking in the light of my savior ( an original piece by the WL, my Sis-in-law, as the school theme song 2009)
Greater is He

They never get the sound out, they are simply to small to do it properly. The sound board is just not the right size in them, the box is not big enough for the sound to grow in. They all need amplification. Use a small practice amp next time or... use a DB!!!

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: SW Illinois USA | | | I was really lifted up by iceboxbass’s story (2 walkups and a great service), thanks for sharing. I was equally saddened by Rick In Dixie’s (WL resigned, band dissolved, congregation in total shock).
I’m hoping our situation evolves more towards the former than the latter.
2 Months ago, of Praise Band was on a roll. We had a great group of people, 4 singers, 3 drummers, 2 keyboard players, percussionist, 1 accoustic guitar, 2 electric guitar, and bass (me). Not everybody there on any given Sunday, but a good solid group that was really pulling together as a team.
But It seems to be falling apart. We’ve had a 2 people quit the band, and worse, the church. We’ve had 2 people move away. And 3 who have changed jobs, which affects their availability. Add in summer travel schedules, and yesterday we were down to Acoustic guitar, Keys 1 vocalist and bass.
Everything that seemed so solid such a short time ago is in disarray. As our WL put it, it feels that we're under attack from the "evil one". We’re trying to keep the faith, and keep praying. And hope for some of those "walk-up folks!
