Yeah, I first heard about it on a thread that was in the Off Topic section. It's such a pity that one of the Wooten Brothers has passed on. Rest in Peace.

I wish I could have heard more of Rudy's playing. He was the Wooten brother whose playing I was least familiar with.

It was a beautiful memorial service. The remaining 4 brothers played, and Rudy's saxophones were on stage in their stands-so sad! Lots of love and good memories from Wooten family, friends, relations and Rudy's friends. Vic and Joe's kids got up and performed and the service was brought to an end by a throw down set by The Regi Wooten Band (I guess that's what it is now that Rudy's gone) with Steve Forrest and John Billings on bass.
As I heard Rudy's playing on video I remarked to Joe how much he must have listened to Ornette Coleman. Joe said he listened to Ornette as well as John Coltrane.
I wish I had gotten to know him better. As I put on my Facebook page, if the measure of a Musician is the number of hearts he touched and people he moved while he was here on Earth, Rudy L. Wooten won a Grammy today!

The Wooten Bros put on a show in the quad of Murray State in KY that i was lucky enough to see. Rudy was a complete BEAST!! HE will be sorely missed, so as much love as i can channel goes out to the Wooten family.

...yeah you & everybody else.
What Roy said: Ornette & Coltrane.
Word was Rudy used to walk the school hallways blowing 2 horns at once...probably sounding like Ornette on the alto & 'Trane on the tenor....at the same time.

The last time I saw him play was at one of Victor's clinics many years ago. I had never seen Coltrane live...this was like the next best thing.

RIP.

If you listen to each one of the Wooten brothers separately, you can tell they all share that same sense of melody in their playing, that's hard to find. RIP Rudy.

Sad. He sounded great on Victor's stuff. God keep him.

Rudy didn't tour with the VWB, did he? I don't think I ever saw him live.
