Prince's new album(s)

Does anyone know who played bass on Prince's 'LOtUSFLOW3R' album? Lots of good low end all over it! Unfortunately the packaging has zero information, except for the track listing.

Rhonda Smith? Josh Dunham? Larry Graham? The "Purple One" himself?

I've read that Prince played everything on his new albums. I'm not to crazy about the first Valente disc yet, but I'm really digging on the other two, especially his bass and guitar work.

From what I understand Rhonda does not play on this, but she may have supplied vocals, not sure. The original Time(featuring Terry, Jimmy and Jesse) has an album completed soon to be released also.

I believe that was Joshua Dunham playing a beautiful white Ritter Bass.

Yup - it was Josh playing, but the bass was his all white Warwick Dolphin.

Sure it wasn't a Ritter? Looked like a Ritter to me. Beautiful bass whatever it was.

It's been looking like Prince has been switching around bands and/or rhythm sections. On Leno a week or two ago, Prince had the Dunhams backing him up on one night, and then the old NPG guys Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson the next night. Sonny T. played a white lefty Warwick Dolphin.

Here's Prince playing "Dreamer" from the 3/26/09 episode. Indeed a white Warwick Dolphin.

...can't seem to find any of last night's episode yet...

I also really dig Sonny's playing with Prince (along with Michael B) and I wish Prince would let Josh open up a bit more. Maybe he's doing exactly what he wants to do. One of the things I loved about Sonny's playing is that he could sit in a groove (two notes on The Undertaker!) or just pull out something ridiculous.

Sonny T is more of a peer of Princes as I read in a interview back when sonny was working with him more often,so maybe thats why he get's a little more freedom

Yeah, that's true. I think you're probably right on with that.

As the story goes, Prince has admired Sonny as a player for many, many years. Sonny was an established and well-respected bassist in town when Prince was still an unknown artist starting to play in groups around the Twin Cities.
