Josh used a Yamaha SA-70 on QotSA and Lullabies
Nick used P basses
Shoes uses a Ripper

Ampeg amps, standard and C tuning.

What's your budget?

About €400 at the moment so I'm hoping to get either a new bass or combo amp. At the moment I have a tanglewood rebel 4k (p/j pickups) and a Hiwatt Maxwatt B15

We cover some QOTSA and I get good results with a P and my SVT or the Sansamp VT pedal.

I think any bass with a PUP in the sweet spot and some overdrive will get you in the ballpark, a VM Squier would be a good bet, as someone mentioned. If you go through a PA the VT and a cheap P-style bass should let you Go With the Flow.

agreed. as long as you have an ampeg sounding distortion going on, you're good. i think more than one of their bassists used a v4b into an 810, correct?

Yeah, as far as I know Nick always used v4s when he was in the band.

I don't know who's playing with them this year but I saw them this summer and the bassist used an epiphone Jack Cassady.
but to me, the qotsa sound is P Bass + VT
