Randy Meisner

It seems that no one ever speaks of the original Eagle bassist, Randy Meisner or his solid contributions like One of These Nights which has an awesome intro and The Best of My Love. Which boasts such a beautiful bass line that I think the song itself wouldn't even be half as good without it.
Anyway just bringing him and his style into discussion.

I don't know why Randy doesn't get the kudos he deserves
for being a huge part of the original Eagles. I like Timothy
Schmit from his Poco days but an original Eagle he is not.
Mr. Schmit is a great bass player and he is doing a great job
with the revived Eagles.

Who knows why Randy Meisner wasn't invited back in?
Must be some bad feelings over something between him
and the rest of the band. It's too bad.

I've got a few digital videos of the Eagles from '74 and '76. It was hard to believe that the original Eagles didn't include Timothy B Schmidt and that Randy was the lead guy. How many of their great songs were already written by the time he left? He has a very nice voice. I think he left to pursue a solo career???

Yes he did in fact leave to start a solo career, I don't know whether or not it's a successful career but he did start one.

The bassline to "One of these Nights" is sexy as hell! Carries the whole tune.

That's the kind of bassist I'd like to be. Everybody thinks about the vocals and guitar solos when they think about that song. And they are superb. But the bass creates all the sexual tension in that tune. Nobody really thinks about it. It's just there. But take it away...

Take it away you've still got a decent song but it's lost all it's backbone, all it's drive. He does it so simply yet it's such an astounding bass line.

I did a cruise thru the Eagles older stuff before diving into the new cd and I was reminded what a fine bass player and vocalist Randy was and how great some of those lines and fills are. I also miss Bernie Leadon's contributions to the original band and as much as I like Joe Walsh he is not a full replcement for Bernie.
