Im watching the Live After Death DVD right now, and he is just amazing. How he plays so fast and accuratly finger style without anchoring his thumb or anything is just un f-ing real

His technique and endurance is truely just unmatched and unrivaled.

AMAZING player

One reason is that he plucks very lightly.

i thought his sound was based on playing VERY hard??

see the 'death metal bass fingerstyle' thread... i know Maiden are not DM at all but he is cited as an influence...

Was this sarcasm? You can hear the glorious clank through the mix on most Maiden recordings! That kind of clank with those thick flats requires some wicked force!!!

I thought this was the most obvious explanation. All joking aside, Harris is the man and Maiden still rules, even after all these years.

No, he plucks incredibly lightly... he just has his action set at virtually zero. Like John Entwistle.

I play in an Iron Maiden tribute band. We do it all, including "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner." I've spent the better part of the last 3 years learning their music - I get a lot of compliments at gigs (as does the rest of my band - we're very serious about it) and TBH, I'm still not certain how he does it! He's a freak - he plays the way he does because it is natural for him to do so. The combination of his bass, flat wounds, his amps, his fingers and his general being are how he does whatever it is he does, while the rest of us Maiden fans try to figure it all out. He's awesome!

His signature set is just the regular Rotosound Jazz flats with different color silks.

I've been playing Maiden tunes since Killers came out, and I still can't use those "winch cable" strings he uses. Might as well be using telephone line.
